It’s As you will all remember, Operation Cleft was a huge
success at Conference. I am pleased to report that
the team has left for Bangladesh with the promise of
completing 150 operations ALL sponsored by District
9710. This is fantastic news and it gets better! In fact
they hope to do between 170 and 180 operations if
possible as there are some 300 patients waiting for the
hope that Operation Cleft brings. This is yet another
great project and I again congratulate everyone on the
support you have given.
At the other end of the scale we have the rather
disappointing response to monthly reporting. Rob
Durie is doing a great job at attempting to correlate
your returns and provide us with an accurate update
of membership. However, we are constantly unable to
report a meaningful statistic because clubs are not
making their returns in a timely manner. Surely it is
not too much to ask for one email to be sent reporting
monthly attendance!!
Our District has been chosen to be the host for a
national membership conference in July. We are at
the early days of preparation, but committees are in
place and if you are asked to help, please do so. The
new RI President D K Lee will be in attendance and
that is a great coup for new DG Phil to have managed.
Well done to all concerned.
Please remember to give me the dates of your
changeover functions as I will need a little time to
plan my visits. Liz and I are determined to attend as
many as possible, but some overlaps will mean that we
cannot get to them all—that will be our loss as we
have enjoyed every club visit we have made.
Finally, a challenge to all clubs. One of the District
goals is to encourage younger members and I would
ask any club that fancies itself as having the lowest
average age to let me know what that age is. A prize
for the club with the lowest average age as at 1 May
2008. That gives you all time to work at bringing in
those younger Rotarians
Regards to all
